MUSE Antique Car Show
Continued
Dear Tom Larsen,
With your dedicated Pillar House support and outstanding staff, the labor and love of so many tireless volunteers, and the most beautiful day of the year weatherwise and otherwise, the Second Annual Pillar House Antique Car Show Muse Benefit had to succeed. It was fantastic!
It was our benevolent musical friend Gordie Heald, donating his Wicker Tree Catering Service, who brought us together, thus guaranteeing the success of our first collaborations, successive Pillar House/Muse benefit brunches. He would have loved these Pillar House antique auto shows with Gordie's Bugatti leading all the way. However, Lou Gherig's disease took him too fast. What a great loss! Could it be Gordie's spirit (and luck as a racing car devotee), has rubbed off on these amazingly successful Pillar House /MUSE collaborations? Absolutely!
Tom, generous neighbor, friend and mentor, Sunday was a dream.the cars.the sunny day.the music.the energetic people.hard working Pillar House "Family".doubled last year's funds raised. All silver lining stuff that is helping MUSE celebrates 25,000 concert visits for elders.
One vivid image of sight and sound holds a wonderful memory, "woowoooooo-sssssssshhhhhhhhhh-chugchugchug!" Giant gray wheels rolled the Stanley Steamer, hissing and puffing, up the driveway, away from the Pillar House, whopping like a rogue train at a railroad crossing. There below, filling the parking lot 90 gorgeous antique cars of every color, age and description shone in the sun. Crowds of admiring car lovers surrounded them; munching on hamburgers and hot dogs and guzzling cokes. The New Bostonians 25 man chorus, Norm Buerklin directing, sang songs on the porch between the white pillars. Mayor Cohen stirred the crowd with his greeting. Roving quartets sang in the crowd. Art Love's Swing Band playing on to an admiring crowd. MUSE Concert Soloists sang opera and "pop". MUSE's Benefit/ Antique Car Show, on the grounds of the Pillar House was a smashing success.
I was amazed to think that everything was donated. The silent auction, a first for MUSE, suggested by you was a great idea. Eighteen outstanding gifts were given by a variety of donor's including: Arthur T. Gregorian Rugs, Bread and Circus, Stew Klien's oil paintings, Barry's Deli, Captain Marden's, Diamond Bakery, Papa Razzi Restaurant, Quebrada, Roche Brother's, Starbuck's, Camera Place, Cheese Shop, Wellesley Inn, J.Todd Galleries, Bernardi Honda, Warren Larouche, PIP Printing, glass etcher Jon Munro and dinner for two at the Pillar House.
Coca Cola Bottling Company and John Dewar Purveyors of Meat, donated all of the delicious food and drink. We sold out! Taylor Rental of Wellesley very generously donated a grill and a popcorn cart. Tom, for all you and your Pillar House Family are doing for the elders through MUSE, Bravo and God bless!
Paul W. Wiggin
Founder and President of MUSE.
