Memories of Tony

I have many fond memories of Tony Spinazzola. One of the very best is the day we met in December of 1973. I invited him to Pillar House as a thank you for the wonderful article he wrote the previous spring. We sat down for lunch at 11:30 and finished our holiday celebration at 10:30 that evening; still seated at the same table in the Curtis Room. That was the one and only time I had ever sat through two meal periods and I'm sure it is one experience that could never be duplicated.

Tony and I celebrated the holidays every year from then until his untimely death in 1985. Our celebration started at the dinner hour after the first year and was always at the same table in the Curtis Room. You who remember Tony had to know of his passion for Chateau Lynch Bages. We had many a vertical tasting over those special years.

I could write a book just of fond memories of Tony. Somehow I think I will savor them for myself over the years to come. Thanks to Scott for relinquishing the fourth page of this newsletter for the article Tony wrote on April 6,1973 for his Let's Eat Out column in The Boston Globe. I have said many, many times over the years that his article "put Pillar House on the map." The line started down the red carpet that Friday evening in April and has never ended...Thanks Tony
